travelers from anywhere.
About this trip
Come
if you love creepy, decrepit, perfectly preserved historic
buildings
This is a confidence-building
workshop for photographers who love historic,
dilapidated buildings. Come to shoot, explore and
share your work. After five hours of on-site shooting, we'll move
to a conference room where you'll edit your images. Once you've
chosen your favorites, we'll load them up for projection
viewing. We'll use your pictures
to discuss what contributes to a successful image.
Bring any form of digital camera; it doesn't matter if you bring a point-and-shoot
or a medium-format back. Great images are not about equipment; they're
about
composition,
light,
message or perhaps something else.
About Eastern State Penitentiary
Construction began on Eastern State Penitentiary in 1822 and
it quickly became one of the most-copied prison designs
in the world with a radical new, radial design. It was completely
abandoned
in 1971 and sat, untended, unused and uncared for until it
was transferred to the City of Philadelphia in 1980. In 1991,
preservation efforts began which eventually transformed the
prison and grounds into a museum.
Located smack dab in the middle of bustling Philadelphia, this
easy-to-reach location is a must-see for historic enthusiasts.
Much of the building remains as it always was with peeling
paint, rusting fixtures, water-filled cells, dripping ceilings
and rotted carved banisters. The building has beautiful, subtle
light and is a photographer's treasure trove of creepy, historic
scenes.

About Me
I'm a working professional photographer
I decided to set up my own workshop because
I l couldn't find the right group to travel with. I was looking for some
good camaraderie, loosely structured photo guidance and like-minded
people to share the time with. I also love to share my work and hear
what people think of it! If you're anything like me, sign up!
I am a professional photographer in New York City. I specialize in women's
portraiture and make a significant portion of my living from stock photography.
I wasn't always this lucky. I worked on Wall Street for many years where
I learned a lot about computers and people. When I left the industry,
I had no idea that I would end up where I am. If you're one of those
people who've always dreamed about making a living doing what you love,
this workshop could change your life.
About the Weather
Philadelphia's November weather can be cool
and damp. Bring plenty of layers as we'll be virtually outside in an
unheated building all day.
